Mockingjay, p376
This like kills me everytime. Peeta is just a boy. He is a child who has been through more than any child or any person should ever have to. He doesn’t know what’s real and what’s fake and he doesn’t even remember how much he loved Katniss. He’s been tortured and beaten and placed in the Arena twice. He hates himself because of what the Capitol did to him. This line breaks my heart because after going through everything he’s just so, so tired.

#HI PEOPLE WHO HATE PEETA MELLARK #THIS IS THE IMMENSE AMOUNT OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT THAT YOU SOMEHOW MISSED #THE PART WHERE WE SEE JUST HOW BRAVE HE’S BEEN #AND HE DOESN’T NEED A BOW AND ARROW #OR HUNTING SKILLS #OR ANY SORT OF WEAPON #TO BE ONE OF THE STRONGEST CHARACTERS IN THE SERIES

“I used to have two imaginary friends named Hamo and Damo. One of them was pink, and the other was blue. I don’t know why they were named Hamo and Damo, but we’d sing Barney songs together, as embarrassing as that is!”

One more time? For the audience?” he says. His voice isn’t angry. It’s hollow, which is worse. Already the boy with the bread is slipping away from me. I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I will finally have to let go.
